STRAW INTO GOLD

An upcycling project by Chemnitz Prison in partnership with the Kulturhaus Arthur

Photo: Peter Rossner

STROH ZU GOLD is a textile upcycling club founded by incarcerated and non-incarcerated women. In a series of public workshops at Chemnitz Prison and in a garage on the grounds of Kulturhaus Arthur in August 2025, they worked on broken, discarded clothing, painting and printing on it or decorating it in the spirit of visible mending. The exhibition (14 August - 14 September 2025) at Kulturhaus Arthur showed documentary photos taken by inmates at Chemnitz Prison, giving an impression of creative and artistic processes within the prison walls.

Exhibition: 14 August to 14 September 2025
