Sukkot XXL

The sukkah and the Feast of Tabernacles

I: Ines Eisinger (Bikini Kommando)

Celebrating Jewish life together, conveying the unknown and an invitation to share in community respectfully: that is the aim of Sukkot. The Feast of Tabernacles, also known as the Feast of Booths, is one of the traditional Jewish festivals. Sukkot is a festival of joy that commemorates the Jewish people’s exodus from Egypt. The festival is defined by a historic experience: a migratory movement of legendary proportions. Sukkot is a reminder of a collective experience of homelessness, the search for a new home and the journey into the unknown.Workshops in kindergartens, schools and at vari- ous venues will involve all generations. Enthusiastic hut builders from all over the region are invited to join in with the construction of the booth, or »sukkah«. Reading, singing, eating, celebrating, discussing, getting to know each other: the sukkah invites you to do all this and much more.
