Tower carillons can be found in hundreds of towers throughout Europe. These were played with a keyboard by a player called a "carilloneur". In 2025, the Chemnitz carillon in the tower of the New Town Hall welcomed guests from all over Europe. They brought musical greetings from this centuries-old art to the Capital of Culture 2025, presenting a unique repertoire at six concerts on Saturdays. A special highlight was a hymn concert on 9 May, Europe Day. A Steigerlied sing-along concert created a link to the entire Capital of Culture region. This created a diverse sound impression that could be heard far beyond the city centre, reflecting the regional musical traditions of Europe. Classical pieces, folk songs, pop songs and catchy tunes were played - a colourful mixture of serious and cheerful music.

When? May to October 2025

Where? Chemnitz, New Town Hall
