Towers of Europe
European guest musicians at the Chemnitz Carillon

Carillons can be found in hundreds of towers throughout Europe. A musician known as a »carillonneur« uses a keyboard to play them. In 2025, the Chemnitz Carillon in the New Town Hall tower is expecting guests from all over Europe. They’re bringing musical salutations from this centuries-old art to the Capital of Culture 2025. Six concert Saturdays feature different repertories. A special highlight is the hymn concert on 9 May, Europe Day. A sing- along with mining songs will connect the entire Capital of Culture region. Audible far beyond the city centre, it will create a multifaceted sonic world reflecting the regional music traditions of Europe. Classical pieces, folk songs, pop songs and catchy tunes – a colourful musical mix from serious to merry.
