English author Julia Davis writes about her family’s relationship with Chemnitz, which they had to leave in the 1930s. Julia runs writing workshops for people of all ages, bringing to life what it was like to have to flee your home town. By inventing and telling stories, she links different eras and brings people together. Participants from different countries experience Chemnitz through pen, paper and new media, using translation apps to help them create their own collages and stories in their native languages. The poems and short stories they craft can travel from smartphone to smartphone, while images and sounds conjure up a rich narrative world that reaches across the generations.
