If you ask German tourists in British Columbia, Canada, what brought them there, you usually hear romanticised expectations of the North American wilderness and its inhabitants that do not quite correspond to the real circumstances. It is often said that the journey into the far distance was motivated by reading Karl May's adventure books.

This project turned the picture around: artists from British Columbia invented stories about Chemnitz and the Ore Mountains and created fictional heroes. Similar to May, they first studied the location of the events, read interviews with people and other background material. In Canada, they processed their stories artistically. Thanks to Silberbüchse e.V., the works of their "historical narrative" have now travelled to Hohenstein-Ernstthal as works of art, which were exhibited in shop windows and public spaces in the Capital of Culture region and could also be experienced on interactive train journeys between Chemnitz and Chomutov.
