As part of the Capital of Culture project Makers, Business & Arts, a brochure with Christmas activities (Maker Advent) has been published for the first time. The comprehensive booklet contains around 100 creative offers from 61 providers from Chemnitz and the cultural region. Divided into 12 categories, there is everything from woodturning and lace-making to floristry, basket weaving and 3D printing. On 29 November and 3 December 2023, a Christmas hands-on event will take place in the offices of Chemnitz 2025 GmbH in the centre of Chemnitz and in the Makerhub Lehngericht in Augustusburg, where some of the offerings can be tried out. The Maker Advent is made possible by a cooperation with SACHSENLOTTO. The company is thus the first project partner for Chemnitz 2025.

The makers from Chemnitz and the cultural region are at the centre of the activities for the Capital of Culture year. The Maker Advent brochure showcases the impressive variety of creative workshops, studios and players and brings together these offerings for the first time in order to make them visible and accessible in the region and beyond.

A key objective for the Makers, Business & Arts team, one of the five main projects in the Chemnitz 2025 programme, is to promote creative tourism offerings. The aim is to expand the potential of this economic sector and turn it into an important resource for sustainable and future-proof year-round tourism that sets an example throughout Europe.

The Maker Advent activities are an initial invitation to both people from the region and guests from outside to get involved creatively, discover unknown places, learn new skills, meet people and create something together. From 27 November to 23 December, there will be at least one hands-on course every day in the run-up to Christmas.

For Sächsische Lotto-GmbH, Chemnitz 2025 is an important topic that has an impact on the whole of Saxony. Thanks to the Lotto principle, the budget of the Free State of Saxony benefits from up to 40 per cent of the company's stakes, which are used for the common good. Marketing co-operations illustrate the Lotto principle, such as the partnership with Maker Advent.

Simone Epperlein, District Director of SACHSENLOTTO Chemnitz: "I am delighted that Sachsenlotto is involved in various activities in Chemnitz as the future European Capital of Culture. As a Chemnitz resident, this is a matter close to my heart and I am proud that my company can make an active contribution. With the funds generated, Sachsenlotto also becomes an 'enabler' through the Free State's public welfare programme - and that fits in very well with the Maker Advent."

Andrea Pier: Commercial Director of Chemnitz 2025 GmbH: "Chemnitz 2025 is a unique project that is already giving the city and the region enormous appeal. The collaboration between Sachsenlotto and the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025 over the next two years is important proof that only together will we be able to make the title year a lasting success. I am delighted that we have been able to gain a first strong partner in Sachsenlotto. With support from the business community, the diverse activities within the framework of Chemnitz 2025 will gain even more visibility and relevance, both nationally and internationally."

Josephine Hage, curator of the Makers, Business & Arts project: "Chemnitz and the cultural region are characterised by a long tradition of creative makers. The Capital of Culture project Makers, Business & Arts has set itself the goal of bringing this cultural heritage to life and bringing it together with innovations from business and industry. We want to create sustainable tourist offers that are independent of the seasonal business. I am delighted that the cooperation with Sachsenlotto gives us the opportunity to show the potential of creative professionals with the Maker Advent. Events like this offer space to meet, make and experience things together. This is particularly important against the backdrop of increasing polarisation in society."
