Strategies against right-wing violence - Capital of Culture GmbH invites you to a panel discussion

On Thursday, 13 April 2023 at 7 p.m., a panel discussion on the current reality of right-wing violence in Chemnitz will take place at smac - Staatliches Museum für Archäologie Chemnitz (Stefan-Heym-Platz 1, 09111 Chemnitz) on the initiative of Kulturhauptstadt GmbH.

The reason for this event, planned at short notice, is the suspected right-wing extremist attack on a group of international visitors in Chemnitz a fortnight ago, in which one person was seriously injured.

With this action, the initiators and guests want to send a clear signal of solidarity with the victim and analyse in discussion what structures are needed in the city and what measures need to be taken now and in the future to prevent right-wing violence. The discussion will also focus on how democratic civil society in Chemnitz can be strengthened.

Zwickau author Jakob Springfeld, who will be reading from his book "Unter Nazis" (Among Nazis) at the Barkombinat on 12 April, had been invited by the Solidarisches Chemnitz association to another event on 13 April. He will therefore open the panel with an impulse on his book and then discuss it with the other panellists. Ines Vorsatz from the City of Chemnitz's Crime Prevention Unit, sociologist Dr Ulf Bohmann from Chemnitz University of Technology, Robert Kusche from the RAA Sachsen e.V. association, which advises those affected by right-wing violence, and Gabi Engelhardt from the Solidarisches Chemnitz association will also take part in the discussion. Kira Ayyadi from the Amadeu Antonio Foundation will moderate the panel discussion.

The event will be held at smac, which, like the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025 GmbH and many other stakeholders in the city, is committed to a cosmopolitan Chemnitz.
