A festival between, above, and with concrete

In the former Fritz Heckert residential area, box-shaped concrete buildings are lined up next to each other. It stretches across several neighbourhoods. In the 1990s, 90,000 people lived in the prefabricated apartment blocks, but after reunification, people moved away and the buildings were demolished. A third of the buildings were demolished. FRITZ51 celebrated concrete as a material during the Capital of Culture year: with an exhibition, in odes and songs in which concrete or prefabricated buildings are the theme and which were covered at a festival, and in biscuits that look like concrete slabs themselves.
