Microprojects

Microprojects were intended to provide impetus for new cultural formats or encounters in the city and the Capital of Culture region. The aim was to encourage broad urban and regional society to develop forms of communication and social interaction.

Funding was available for non-commercial project ideas in the creative and cultural fields, e.g. visual arts, performing arts, literature, music, film, photography, architecture, peace and remembrance culture, media and new media, related forms and interdisciplinary projects, as well as activities in sport, civil society and popular culture. Activities focusing on diversity, sustainability, inclusion and/or multi-generational collaboration were also expressly desired.

Participation and promotion

Associations, initiatives and committed individuals were invited to submit their specific projects. Projects could receive funding of up to €2,500. Projects with a European dimension could receive up to €3,000 (e.g. invitations to artists from Europe or international partners, which entail additional expenses for fees, travel and accommodation costs). Self-financing was not a prerequisite. It was recommended that the project application be submitted with a very detailed plan for its planning, implementation and financing so that it could be implemented in a timely manner (if necessary, any permits or rooms had already been requested). A jury selected the most convincing project ideas from among all the submissions, which were then supported financially and in the communication and promotion of the project's implementation.

Microprojects for Chemnitz 2025 were assessed as those that met at least one of the five criteria for project development (5Cs). The project criteria were explained in more detail in the Chemnitz 2025 handbook.

C Europe | C Europe: Promoting cooperation at European level

C the maker in yourself: Create experiences of self-efficacy and win new audiences through the maker concept.

C the maker in others: Discover the potential of creative collaboration with unexpected partners to make better progress together.

C the space for makers | C the space for makers: Making new space accessible for creative ideas, projects and collaboration

C the Unseen | C the Unseen: Exploring the unknown, overlooked and hidden and bringing it into the spotlight

The visibility of the project in Chemnitz and/or the Capital of Culture region had to be guaranteed.

Chemnitz 2025 gGmbH did not provide any institutional cooperation funding; ‘institutional cooperation funding’ was defined as funding not related to individual projects for existing or newly established institutions (e.g. museums, theatres, associations, foundations) for their entire activities (e.g. infrastructure, ongoing business). Chemnitz 2025 gGmbH did not support any purchases, construction measures and/or purely investment projects. Furthermore, catering costs could only be financed for project-related content (e.g. cultural picnics).

An independent jury made up of various stakeholders from the city and the Capital of Culture region reviewed the projects and evaluated them according to the defined criteria.

  • Nadine Rothe (Chairwoman of the jury, freelance artist for communication design and illustration, member of Huhlern e.V. and Kulturbündnis Hand in Hand e.V., former member of the Chemnitz2025 Program Council)
  • Tobias Möller (Deputy Chairman of the jury, employee of the Netzwerk für Kultur- und Jugendarbeit e.V., member of the Cultural Advisory Board of the City of Chemnitz, former member of the Chemnitz2025 Program Council)
  • Jörg Illing (member of the German-Polish Society Chemnitz, former member of the Chemnitz2025 Program Council)
  • Simone Becht (responsible for "Art in Public Space, Visual Arts" of the City of Chemnitz, former Head of the Capital of Culture Office)
  • Wolfgang Dorn (Managing Director of "Die Theatermacher UG", Managing Director of FZLO Freizeitstätten GmbH Limbach-Oberfrohna, Limbach-Oberfrohna)
  • Kerstin Pfeil (Head of the Stadthalle Oelsnitz/Erzgeb., retired cultural manager, Hainichen)
  • Ronny Kienert (Chairman Miteinander statt Gegeneinander e.V.)
  • Astrid Eberius (Head of Communication eins energie in sachsen GmbH & Co. KG)

The microprojects were supported by eins energie in sachsen GmbH & Co. KG.

Thanks to the commitment of eins energie in sachsen GmbH & Co. KG as the main sponsor of Chemnitz 2025 European Capital of Culture, the funding amount in this final round of microprojects was increased, so that a total of €100,000 was available for projects in Chemnitz and the Capital of Culture region.
