Microprojects

Since 2017, microprojects have flanked the entire Capital of Culture process: an idea, a brief description - and with a little creativity, a microproject is born. You can easily get support for your idea. The kitchen table, the school or the clubhouse become creative forges, and ideas can be realised directly with friends, colleagues or communities.

We are building on this success in the Bridge Year 2026.

Micro-projects provide impetus for new cultural formats or encounters in the city and the Capital of Culture region. Even after the end of the European Capital of Culture year, the wider urban and regional community is encouraged to create new forms of communication and social interaction.

Non-commercial project ideas for creative and cultural work, such as visual arts, performing arts, literature, music, film, photography, architecture, peace and remembrance culture, media and new media, related forms and interdisciplinary projects as well as activities in sport, civil society and popular culture can be funded. Activities that focus on diversity, sustainability, inclusion and/or multi-generational cooperation are also expressly desired.

Participation and promotion

Associations, initiatives and individuals from Chemnitz and the 38 municipalities in the Capital of Culture region can apply with their ideas for up to 2,500 euros in financial support until 31 March 2026. We are looking for projects that relate to the major themes of the Capital of Culture year: the #3000Garagesthe Living neighbourhoodneighbourhood, the exchange between the generations, the PURPLE PATH art & sculpture trail and the Maker Region (following on from the Makers, Business & Arts project). Project proposals to be realised on the intervention areas are also very welcome. Among other things, the aim is to open up places with new ideas, enable encounters with local or European players, activate creative participation or make the hidden visible.

All information and requirements for the application and the projects, time periods and the general process as well as the selection criteria will be presented at the information evening on 11 February at 6 pm in the Hartmannfabrik and will also be published on the Chemnitz 2025 communication channels. The online application platform will then be activated for submissions here on this page.

On Wednesday, 18 March 2026, a further information evening on the microprojects will be held at the Hartmannfabrik, where specific questions about the submissions will be answered.

Deadline for submitting project ideas: 31 March 2026.
