EDEKA Group Northern Bavaria-Saxony-Thuringia

Gold sponsor for Chemnitz 2025

The EDEKA Group North Bavaria-Saxony-Thuringia is one of seven regional groups of companies in the EDEKA Group, which is organised as a cooperative. The cooperative was founded 112 years ago as the nucleus of the group of companies and today is the wholesaler and concept provider for around 860 retail stores of the "EDEKA", "E centre", "Marktkauf" and "diska" brands in Franconia, the Upper Palatinate, Saxony, Thuringia and northern Baden-Württemberg. Together with the independent EDEKA retailers, the EDEKA North Bavaria-Saxony-Thuringia Group generated combined sales of around 5.2 billion euros in 2023 and employs around 48,500 people and 1,262 trainees. This makes it one of the largest employers and trainers in the region.

Sebastian Kohrmann, EDEKA Board Spokesman:
"The last time the city of Essen was European Capital of Culture was in 2010, until the choice fell on a German city again. This is a rare occurrence, so we are all the more delighted to share this title with Chemnitz and will do our bit to support the city of Chemnitz and local authorities in their cultural activities. With around 700 employees, we are deeply rooted in the Chemnitz region and would like to support this important historical event, which will benefit Chemnitz in the long term."
