Everything at once in August

At the end of August, the Capital of Culture programme is bursting at the seams - so much is happening that it's hard to know where to go first. Take it all in? Impossible. We help you keep track of everything in the overflowing programme.

In Chemnitz

The Kiosk of unknowledge

Travel destination prefabricated buildings

[From 16 August to 7 September]
The kiosk of unknowlegde is located at the old airport in Kappel, in the former prefabricated housing estate "Wohngebiet Fritz Heckert". The pop-up shop is no ordinary kiosk: it is a meeting place for residents and guests. There is also a varied programme every day except Wednesdays.

BDTSK8 Festival

[22-24 August]
The BDTSK8 Festival combines skateboarding, music and urban art in a three-day event in the centre of Chemnitz. Skaters from all over Europe - from U16 to over 30 - compete against each other in street and bowl competitions. Open-air art, from graffiti to stencils, will be created at the same time.

And above us the big wagon

Garage stories from women

[23.08.-24.08., 28.08.-30.08, 04.10., 18.10.2025]
Garages characterise the cityscape of Chemnitz. In GDR times, they offered a place of retreat. But how does the next generation - the daughters and granddaughters - view this legacy of their parents and grandparents? Über uns der große Wagen brings memories and stories from Chemnitz residents to the theatre stage.

Off into the countryside!

Sun seeker!

Art, mining, uranium

[until 26 October]
In GDR times, "Wismut" mined weapons-grade uranium for the Soviet Union - and collected fine art on a grand scale. In Zwickau, at an authentic site of Wismut history, Sonnensucher! is exhibiting the most extensive art collection of a GDR company.
