Open Air Kulturfestival at Stadthallenpark

The Park Summer offers a month-long open-air programme seven days a week in Chemnitz Stadthallenpark: events ranging from indie to classical music, jazz, poetry slams, children's activities and yoga.

Art festival tours

Contemporary art in a thermal power plant

[18 July - 17 August]
The colourful Esse, visible everywhere in Chemnitz, is part of a decommissioned lignite-fired power plant. In the midst of this impressive industrial architecture, the Begehungen art festival is dedicated to topics such as resource consumption, biodiversity and climate change - with an international exhibition, concerts, readings, films, lectures and debates.

EuroBean Chocolate Festival

A weekend for all chocolate fans!

[1 - 3 August]
The EuroBean Chocolate Festival transforms the Industrial Museum into a lively chocolate market with live music and small shows.

Urban art in the industrial wasteland

[22-24 August, 29-31 August, 5-7 September]
The ibug (abbreviation for industrial brownfield redevelopment) is one of the most important festivals for urban art in Europe. International artists transform the empty halls of an abandoned building into a positive utopia of the possible.

Europe's largest railway museum

The railway showplace offers 260,000 square metres of railway to touch. In addition to the exhibition, there is a family-friendly holiday programme in summer.

Festival for the art of storytelling

[23-29 August]
Close your eyes and open your ears in August. The IMAGINE! festival brings exciting stories and unknown fairy tales to Chemnitz. There will also be workshops, performances and hands-on activities.

Dancing and the biggest canvas in the city

[30.08.2025, 14-17 h]

As part of the musical hiking trail Kamenica Musica , dance initiatives from Chemnitz, the Czech Republic and Poland will be presenting performances and hands-on activities at the Hartmannfabrik. Meanwhile, young and old can give free rein to their creativity with chalk outside the doors of the Hartmannfabrik (Fabrikstraße 11, 09111 Chemnitz).

Light our Vision

International Light Art Festival

[24 - 27 September 2025]

For the third time, Light our Vision transforms Chemnitz into a shining work of art.Light artists from all over Europe illuminate buildings and areas, awakening a longing for more: more colour and courage in public space design, more vision in urban planning, and more willingness to transform. The festival sees itself as a catalyst for a vision of urban development.

Come and eat at my table!

Picnic at Schloßteich with a diverse programme

[27 September 2025, 12pm-6pm]

Come and eat at my table is a big city picnic on and around the castle pond. Everyone can bring something to eat and share with each other. There is a varied programme for children: colouring pictures and 3D papercraft templates to make, a colouring wall for future pictures, face painting and dancing.

Silver lustre and miner's death

Bastel- und Kinderprogramm in der Bergbauausstellung

Silberglanz und Kumpeltod is an exhibition that looks at the history of mining and its traditions in Chemnitz and Saxony. The museum offers a craft workshop, the Steigerstube, for children and their families on 22, 28 and 29 June.

Community Music

Eine Einladung zum Mitmachen: Musik für alle

The Paper Lantern Collective and inpeos e.V. invite you to take part in Community Music. During the project period(until the end of June), open, free music workshops will be organised at various locations in the city to make music and create together - with or without previous musical knowledge.

 

 

Makerhub: Fiefdom Augustusburg

Meeting place for young and older makers

At the Lehngericht Augustusburg, young and older makers work on joint projects using traditional craft techniques and pioneering technologies.

Makerhub: KulturWerk Schneeberg

Workshops for discovering, filming, painting, printing

The Schneeberg Makerhub offers creative, artistic and technically modern workshops. Together with makers from the region, four workshops have been put together from 14 to 17 July for discovering, filming, painting or printing.

Further individual events

Individual events are also offered.

The non-commercial local radio station T opens its doors and gives a glimpse behind the scenes of radio making - at the end, you can create your own radio programme. The T-hour takes place on 16 July and 20 August.

In the Freiberg Children's Cathedral from 22 June to 24 August, children can discover the church interior "from the cellar to the roof" on their own, experience the church as a place to feel at home and try out all sorts of things.

There are also festivals and celebrations for children who like to party:

  • Kukaye Moto is organising a family festival on 28 June with drumming, bouncy castle, football tournament, storytelling, karaoke and other exciting activities. Food and drink will also be provided.

  • The Stadtwirtschaft is an intervention area of the Capital of Culture programme. On 9 and 10 August, it invites you to the courtyard festival "Vom Wimmeln und Wuseln " with wokshops, culinary delights and live music.
