entrance free, except for the cultural evening

The Chemnitz Chess Cup is a women’s team rapid chess tournament that views chess not only as a sport but also as a cultural asset, and aims to promote it as such. The values embodied by chess are tolerance, openness and equality of opportunity. Eight teams, each comprising four female players from all regions of Germany, will compete against one another in chess. The games will be commentated on live on site for spectators.

As well as playing chess, participants get to explore the Capital of Culture and make new friends. Women are in the minority in chess. That is why we want to help this group connect better and support them – across generations. Our tournament features both young female players and women aged 80 and over. No other sport offers such a great opportunity to bridge the generational divide and engage with one another. We aim to provide the platform for this.

Dates:

Matches will take place on Saturday between 2 pm and 6 pm, and on Sunday between 10 am and 1 pm. Spectators are very welcome.

The opening ceremony on 22 August at 1.30 pm and the prize-giving ceremony on 23 August at 2 pm are also open to the public.

Anyone interested in the colourful cultural evening (by invitation only or by prior registration) on 22 August from 6 pm is welcome to email anneczaeczine@gmx.de.
