The Ukrainian-born poet, writer, essayist and translator Yuri Andrukhovych became known through the performance group Bu-Ba-Bu (Burlesk-Balagan-Buffonada), founded in 1985. In experimental, satirical poems, the group criticised actually existing socialism and had a lasting influence on the Ukrainian literary scene. After the publication of his last volumes of poetry in 1991 and 1997, Andrukhovych devoted his work mainly to narrative prose and journalistic essays, but remained true to his preference for the multi-layered, mischievous-satirical and sometimes grotesque-carnivalesque, particularly in his novels.

He will be reading from his works and talking to moderator Prof Malinowski.

The actual International Stefan Heym Award ceremony will take place on 18 March 2026 . With this award, the Board of Trustees honours Yuri Andrukhovych's outstanding literary and journalistic work, his commitment to European international understanding and his consistent literary involvement in public debates. Online registration is possible until 12 April 2026.
