Conversation: Where does the porcelain of the Erzgebirge actually come from?
With Uli Aigner and Steffi Rathe
Kaolin, the "white earth", was first found in 1698 in the neighbouring town of Aue-Bad Schlema in Lößnitz. The findings made it possible for Augustus the Strong to found the Meissen porcelain manufactory in 1710. The St Andreas white earth mine was almost its sole supplier until the middle of the 19th century.
The meeting point is the former hat house of the Weißerdenzeche: PURPLE PATH curator Alexander Ochs introduces the artist Uli Aigner. Steffi Rathe, the former head of the Erzgebirgskreis district archive in Aue-Bad-Schlema and chairwoman of the Lößnitzer Heimatfreunde e.V. association, is a woman who knows everything there is to know about the Erzgebirge. She will introduce you to the history of the "white gold" in the 18th century and its consequences.
The event is part of the programme of the tour Unterwegs mit der Künstlerin Uli Aigner. The talk can be attended independently of the tour.
