European Workshop for Culture and Democracy
Involving and supporting local actors from civil society and bringing them together with allies from Europe - that was the aim of the European Workshop for Culture and Democracy. A wide range of programmes were created with a particular focus on intergenerational exchange. Co-operation between Germany, the Czech Republic and Poland was another focal point.
The projects flowed into the Chemnitz 2025 programme as a result of calls for proposals. The project organisers were supported in the preparation and implementation of their ideas. To this end, there was a programme for building cultural skills that accompanied the process and offered consulting services, educational workshops and networking.

Expertise development
We were only the Capital of Culture together! The competence-building programme involved people, facilitated joint dialogue and helped stakeholders to implement their projects. It invited people to take part in calls for proposals, supported the implementation of projects with workshops and educational opportunities and organised public discussion events under the motto "What can the Capital of Culture do in Chemnitz?"
Targeted preparation was needed to turn an idea into a concrete project. To this end, local expertise was built up through educational and advisory services. The aim was to connect project organisers with European contacts, start a conversation about the project structure and find supporters and collaborators. Project partners received concrete support in realising their ideas in workshops.
The discourse events and workshops as part of the capacity-building programme were fundedby the Federal Agency for Civic Education.
