Industrial history

Einstige Maschinenhalle

Built in 1864, the Hartmann factory was once part of the globally successful engineering company of "locomotive king" Richard Hartmann. Just as it was a centre of industrial progress back then, the Hartmann factory is now once again a place of creativity and innovation and a symbol of the city's ability to change, which is characterised by many transformation processes. After standing empty for a long time, the listed building has been renovated and is one of the 30 intervention areas of the city of Chemnitz, an urban development project for the European Capital of Culture.
