Dancing neighbours
Dance of the generations through Chemnitz
Dance connects. The Capital of Culture’s Team Generation is initiating a programme that combines contemporary and urban dance with improvisation, and brings together young and old. Amateurs and non-amateurs alike will meet in a highly professional environment: Yoko Ando, a internationally acclaimed dancer and choreographer from Japan, known for her work with the Forsythe Company, is supporting the dance project. She has over ten years of experience in intergenerational dance projects in Kanagawa Prefecture, made possible by the Kanagawa Arts Foundation.
Dancing Neighbours will focus on intercultural exchange through non-verbal dialogue, which unfolds through communal movement, creative expression and energy. Dance courses for older participants will be held regularly, supplemented by workshops. For younger participants, there will be workshops fusing urban dance styles and contemporary dance.
The choreographies created will be presented at the opening of Chemnitz 2025 and at the TANZ | MODERNE | TANZ 2025 festival, among other occasions.
