The “Wiederbelebung kulturellen Brachlandes e.V.” (WkB) is a non-profit Chemnitz association, which was founded in 2006 by local students and freelance artists and has been active in Chemnitz ever since.

The main concern of the association is to raise the cultural standard in the city of Chemnitz and its surroundings. In addition, it is committed to intensifying the relationship between people and contemporary art and culture and thus has an educational effect on the presentation of cultural problems and their possible solutions.

Cultural problems in Chemnitz and the surrounding area are given a higher priority, whereby the association’s activities are aimed at facilitating cultural understanding at regional, national and international level. Especially the latter is important, because in cultural work mainly socially disadvantaged people or people threatened by discrimination are considered and integrated.

The realization of the goals of the association is practically achieved by the sponsorship of self-organized and self-administered housing and cultural projects in Chemnitz, by the organization and implementation of focus-oriented working groups, circles, leisure activities and events, by public relations work with a focus on tolerant coexistence, the reduction of prejudices and the communication of the necessity of culture in everyday life as well as by continuous cooperation with associations, groups, societies and sponsors that correspond to the meaning of the above-mentioned.

For nine years now, the association has been contributing to the cultural revival of the urban area of Chemnitz and its expandable alternative (youth) cultural landscape.
