Under the motto “Culture needs business – business needs culture” the newly founded KLUB 2025 presented itself today. The initiative of regional companies, chambers and credit institutions wants to stand up for a successful application of the city of Chemnitz for the European Capital of Culture 2025 and to participate in the expansion of the cultural offer in the cultural region by providing financial means.

What contribution can and should the regional economy make in the ECOC process? What further support is needed to improve the framework conditions for the cultural and creative industries and to promote them in a targeted manner? How can the cross-sectoral potential of culture be exploited and how can mutual benefits be created from partnerships between cultural and economic players that go beyond purely financial support? These were the questions that moved Sparkasse Chemnitz and Volksbank Chemnitz eG, both of which are traditionally deeply connected with the region and closely networked with the local economy. The idea of KLUB 2025 was born in an exchange with the city and the Capital of Culture Office, and the two banks were quickly able to inspire other economic players with the initiative. Thus, in addition to the advertising agency Haus E and the consulting firm tradu4you, the Chamber of Industry and Commerce Chemnitz and the Chamber of Crafts Chemnitz as well as the CWE Chemnitzer Wirtschaftsförderungs- und Entwicklungs GmbH are among the first supporters of KLUB 2025.

The core objective of KLUB 2025 is to make an active contribution to a successful application for the European Capital of Culture by providing financial support to the regional economy. The aim is to promote encounters between business and culture and thus create mutual benefits for all those involved. The aim is to strengthen culture in the region, to culturally enliven the city and thus to enhance the attractiveness of the business location.

Companies from the entire economic region of southwest Saxony can become involved in KLUB 2025. A part of the collected funds will be used by KLUB 2025 for the financial support of official Capital of Culture projects. They thus flow directly into the Capital of Culture application process. There will also be a public call for projects on the website www.klub2025.eu from 15 March 2019. Cultural projects can apply there for financial support. We are looking for projects and cultural offerings that make a sustainable contribution to an attractive business and cultural location. A committee, in which the supporters of KLUB 2025 will be actively involved, will decide on project support. With the help of comprehensive communication measures, KLUB 2025 will also report on the supported cultural projects and thus contribute to a higher public awareness of the regional cultural offers.
