50,000 people have celebrated an open and colourful city. Actors from culture, sport, business and society together provided music, art, theatre, performances, discussions, fair play, good humour – and a wonderful lightness in the city at over 40 locations. Many thanks to all who were present – especially to Bruno Inácio from Faro (Portugal). The head of the cultural office and of the application Faro2027 shared with us his enthusiasm for roofs: as places of togetherness. Whether gardening, experiencing culture, meeting neighbours or generating electricity – Bruno not only reported on the first edition of the Açoteia – Faro Rooftop Festival, but also brought examples from all over Europe. And now we are sure: Chemnitz2025 has to go on the roof. Especially since we in Chemnitz have enough flat roofs due to the many prefabricated concrete slab buildings, the potential of which has not yet been given much thought. So if anyone has any ideas, we are curious. Because we could well imagine that such a change of perspective, a view of Chemnitz from above, could be quite exciting. In any case, the guests of our discussion on the Chemnitz cosmos were immediately intoxicated by the heights – and perhaps with this panel we have actually initiated a creative process that deals with the open spaces on the buildings. We will stay tuned.
