Rainer Maria Schubert was born in Scheibenberg in the Erzgebirge and studied at the technical school for applied arts in Schneeberg with Johann Belz. Since 1964 he has worked as a freelance sculptor, draughtsman and designer in Karl-Marx-Stadt/Chemnitz. Rainer Maria Schubert is a member of the VBKD, the Chemnitzer Künstlerbund e.V. and the Bundesverband Bildender Künstler Deutschlands. He is also a lecturer at the Fortis Academy Chemnitz. Rainer Maria Schubert participates in exhibitions at home and abroad and was awarded the Saxon State Prize for Design in 1995.
