In the context of the Biennale “Pochen” the Seniorenfilmclub Chemnitz showed its film documentary on bismuth in Chemnitz: “Uranium mining in the Erzgebirge”. They focus especially on the area around Schlema. The mayor of Schlema as well as 20 high school students and employees of the municipal library of Chemnitz and Wismut GmbH took part in the project.

Chemnitz was responsible for the administration of uranium mining in Saxony and Thuringia for 40 years. The 20-minute film shows the history from the discovery of the healing effects of uranium to today’s renaturation projects, interviews with contemporary witnesses and the far-reaching effects of bismuth.

The documentation could be viewed from November 3 to 18, 2018, in the foyer of the smac and was also shown during the reading by Dr. Ducke on November 14. The film also brought the senior film club a nomination for the citizen award 2019.
