Journalists informed themselves about international cultural exchange
With a view to the city’s candidacy for the European Capital of Culture 2025, the Capital of Culture Office today invited journalists to discuss issues relating to European cultural exchange.

Chemnitz has been a member of a European LAB
(ideas workshop), which aims to initiate exchanges between cultural operators from different countries. In addition to Chemnitz, Rijeka, Capital of Culture 2020, and the two Capitals of Culture in 2021, Timisoara and Novi Sad, belong to this workshop of ideas. A first meeting took place in Timisoara in December 2017.

Nino Micklich from Chemnitz, who participated in the LAB on behalf of the Capital of Culture Office, reported on the results of this first exchange at the press breakfast.

“The only exciting thing is that the other participants bring a lot of experience from successful Capital of Culture applications and we quickly realised that our cities are similar in many ways,” reported Nino Micklich. A first joint project based on artist residencies has now been developed. Ferenc Csák, project manager of the Capital of Culture application, provided information on the status of European cooperation and the expansion of a creative network with a view to Chemnitz 2025.

Among other things, the focus was on Chemnitz’ twin cities, because just like Chemnitz, the Slovenian twin city Ljubljana is also applying for the title of Capital of Culture 2025 and the Finnish twin city Tampere for 2026.

In addition, the press representatives had the opportunity to discuss further questions on the status of the Chemnitz Capital of Culture process in a relaxed conversation.
The next press breakfast of the Capital of Culture Office is scheduled for 23 February 2018.
